San Francisco‘s first-of-its-kind program to honor toxic-chemical-free nail salons will serve as the base coat upon which many new layers are painted if public health advocates have their way.
Starting in January, the Department of the Environment will award salons that use healthy polishes with a decal to post in their window.
The same advocates that pushed for the new law are trying to get a similar program created statewide and also want future laws to honor salons with good ventilation, high levels of recycling, energy-efficient equipment and green cleaning products.
