Everyone deserves to live in a healthy and safe environment. That environment includes where you live, work, play, and pray. We reject and actively push back against racist rhetoric, actions, policies and institutional oppression that leads to state-sanctioned brutality, gun violence, and harm that again and again assaults communities, particularly communities of color. We are committed to working for justice and equity, and are in solidarity with social, racial, and environmental justice organizations to build community, understanding and honest dialogue to address the root causes of violence, harm and hate.

I learn something new every day, both as a mother and as an independent journalist. I came across WVE as I was researching simple living topics for the website I produce called http://FlourSackMama.com. I wondered what all the fuss about cosmetics safety was about. I was also intrigued about the growing popularity of Green Cleaning parties, deciding to host one. I was surprised to find myself in conversations about the tragedies of infertility and cancer.

Because I grew up on a family farm with acres of woods and water to roam, and accustomed to gardening, I feel a strong appreciation and attachment to the land. It’s only in recent years that I’ve learned about returning to organic farming methods, and I’m intrigued by the idea of simplifying some things in life, like our food, in order to live better.

Losing my mother to cancer awakened me to the need for women to become aware, active participants in prevention of this cruel disease. Subsequently becoming a mother of two girls further compels me to care about the environment we’re in every day, starting with our bodies and homes.

I’ll never forget the first conversation I had with Cassidy at WVE, when she shared with me why she does this work of getting rid of toxic chemicals that harm women’s health; that conversation was just one of the ways that WVE has inspired me to fight for safer products for my family. Just last month, I was fortunate enough to go to Washington, D.C. for the National Stroller Brigade for Safer Chemicals.  I was honored to meet our state’s senators and thankful for the chance to appeal to them and their staff about this cause that is so close to my heart.
